​Dear Palmetto Chapter Members: Join us Wednesday, October 23, for a Discovery Museum exploration of Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge. Located at the northern tip of Hilton Head Island, Pinckney Island is a unique location full of Lowcountry history and natural beauty. This tour explores three different habitats: the Salt Marsh, the Maritime Forest, and a freshwater lagoon. The island’s Ibis Pond lagoon is known for its active wading-bird rookery which offers great bird watching opportunities between April and August. The island is also rich in cultural history and was home to General Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a signer of the United States Constitution.

EVENT: Explore Pinckney - 1.5 mile walking tour
WHERE: Meet at Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge off of 278 between the mainland and Hilton Head Island.
  **Please carpool as parking spots are limited
DATE: Wednesday, October 23
TIME: 10 A.M. - 12 P.M.
COST: $15 per person; (gratuity on your own after the tour)
WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray recommended
MAXIMUM: The first 20 people to register
